The use of a gigantic judge size and probabilistic enlisting of the look for participants ontogenys the outside rigour of the general explore findings. The exploreer should also avoid the query prejudice in the aggregation and abstract of the findings to incr repose the generalizability of the findings. dependableness is the whole step of soundbox of the seek findings. It can be increase by applying similar statistical tools of abbreviation the results. Should women be allowed in combat Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Should women be allowed in combat - Essay ExampleOthers mention that women be not fit for combat service and atomic number 18 a detriment to the effectiveness of some(prenominal) fighting force. The truth is that women should not be permitted to avail in the armed forces in combat roles even should they wish to do so. Another argument, which is not currently relevant but which may occur at any sentence, is whether or not women should be drafted into the armed forced should a draft be reinstated. This raises interesting issues. In the course of this paper I will see some of the objections to the idea of women serving in the armed forces and I will conclude by discussing the potential issues around a draft. The preponderance of evidence suggests that women are ill-suited for combat missions. Gender roles have changed a great deal in the decades since the 1960s when women began to enter the workforce in droves. The rise of human rights law indispensable companies and the govern ment to find ways to take hold women, who were often unable to display the same strength as men. Firefighting units altered their training regimes, for example, in value to accommodate women. All of these things are impressive achievements. We should celebrate the continued integration of our wives, sister, daughters, and mothers into society at large and into the workplace. Women need to play a more substantial and substantial role in the world. But where can that line be drawn? Critics of deploying women in combat roles point to the various accommodations made to women in different sectors of society. They suggest that there is no room for accommodations in wartime. It would be nice to have more physically disabled people on the battlefield in order to encourage diversity, but they would compromise the mission. Only the most physically and mentally fit individuals should form the tip of the spear, the combat units that make up the military. This is the crux of the electric resi stance to women in the military. In the American military today, women are not involved in combat roles. They make up only around 14 per centum of the active Army (Army.mil). Catherine Ross served in Iraq as a civil affairs sergeant attached to a combat brigade and argued recently that women should be allowed to serve in combat roles. While in Iraq, I was directly attached to an infantry battalion. I went everywhere they did, lived as they did and faced the same dangers they did every time I went outside the wire to conduct infrastructure assessments, which was nearly every day. There is nothing special or unique about what I experienced. galore(postnominal) female soldiers have been or currently are in the same situation going outside the wire and facing the possibility of I.E.D.s, small blazonry fire and more. The fact is that as support we end up attached to infantry, artillery and other combat arms units, and make enemy contact. Despite this, I was blind to the big picture. I suppose I had just guzzled down the Kool-Aid and drove on. It took getting out of the Army for me to see how women in the military are truly viewed and treated (Ross). With due respect to Ms. Ross, her observations do not make an especially strong case for allowing to fight in the military. She may have returned in one piece from Iraq, but despite the fact that she was in a combat zone she did not have to survive the stress and difficulty of harming the enemy in a combat sense. There are a number of powerful arguments which she overlooks when

The smaller Honda Insight gets 70 miles per gallon overall, making it the highest-mileage car ever to hit the mass market -- apotheosis for todays soaring muscularity prices.Hybrid technology also works on a larger scale. In 1999, five hybrid busses ran up to 18 hours a day in New York City. The 40-foot busses used a diesel engine running at constant speed. The hefty batteries were used to accelerate and recover energy from braking.Hybrids combine the best of electricity and gasoline. Instead of recharging through a plug, the batteries get their juice from a small, light gasoline or diesel engine. When you hit the brakes, kinetic energy is converted into electricity, and then stored in the battery. At a stop light, the engine shuts down entirely.Hybrids sound good -- they are, for example, exempt from the range limitations of battery-powered cars. still even hybrids could seem passed by 2004, when major auto makers promise to start selling cars powered by provide cells. But bulky, expensive and relatively weak, the cells seemed unlikely to find a erupt under the hood of Detroits finest. But while batteries have a limited supply of chemical energy, fuel cells get chemical energy from the fuel, so they drive until the tank runs dry. Securing a Crime Scene Paper - Essay ExampleUltimately, the importance of maintaining a contamination-free criminal offense zones and one that is not meddled with has a profound impact with respect to the equity of the entire justice system (Lehmann et al., 2013). Frq Articles of Confederation Essay Example for Free

Frq Articles of Confederation EssayThe Articles of Confederation from 1781 to 1789 did not provide the United States with an effective form of government because of its problems in terms of domestic policy, foreign policy, and economics. domestic policy, or the set of decisions that a government makes relating to things that directly affect the people in its own country, was not adequate enough to solve strife mingled with enjoins. The Articles stated that state legislatures chose representatives for the house, rather than the people themselves. This began to lean toward the British practices of virtual representation, which the U. S. fought a war to be rid of. Another problem was that each state only received one vote, which was unfair to the larger states with a greater population. With a super majority required to pass laws, almost no laws were passed because no one was able to agree. The lack of federal courts also made it difficult to solve disputes, more specifically th ose between states, making them all grow more independently rather than as a unified nation.Foreign policy was a mess under the Articles of Confederation. The states were unwilling to give up their land and big businessman as they were afraid that is the federal government gained any(prenominal) more power then they would return to a monarchical type system. With no president, there was no figure to enforce laws or make negotiate with other countries, and the governors were only concerned with the welfare of their own state, preventing the states from becoming more unified.Because the federal government lacked any power, it was impossible to solve the problem with the Mississippi river and fishing rights, and there was no one to stop Shays Rebellion. This lack of power caused great fear that the British could tardily come and take us over once again. Massive debts had piled up from the Revolution and from starting a new country, so states were looking for a elan to pay them off. They began printing their own currency, only to cause massive inflation and difficulties trading both with other nations, and even from state to state. This inability to trade caused still problems, and they went into a recession. This all resulted from states holding most of the power, rather than their being a balance between state and federal. As the states did not want to lose their power, they would not give up any land to the federal government even if it were to pay off some of its debts. Congress did not have the ability to tax, create further economic strain and making it difficult to pay off their many debts.

Technology In Cinema And Film Making Media Essay

Technology In pic And Film Making Media EssayI think that modern technology has changed modern dissipate fashioning for the better. In the last few years, using the latest technologies has been paramount in the film establish process. This has ca utilised films to evolve over the years with each progressing idea, technology, and technique, allowing filmmakers to bring their vision to life to a greater extent accurately and more convincingly to the big screen. Without these advances in word picture stupefy and computing many films such as Star Trek(JJ Abrams, 2009) would not have been as successful. Film production has to a fault become very fast to see the growing demand for movies as the channel for distri neverthelession increase and references broaden. The development of technology has affected an extremely wide array of areas concerning film, including the production process, the way films are lieued, how the films are distributed, and even how they are promoted. Thes e new innovations are advancing so quickly this instant that the traditional cinema-going experience may find itself having to compete with online drift of filmed entertainment.2. The facts and opinionsDigital media is in-expensive and can be edited quickly and easily. Large Volumes of raw video are handled in a few days with sometimes only one person working on it, this is comparable to the older methods with film that took several weeks to process with teams going through each reel of film. The starting line practical cinema device was do by two French brothers Louis and Auguste Lumiere, they called it the cinematograph. In 1894 the device and others like it began to be employ in public buildings or halls (dubbed nickelodeans because it constitute a nickel to watch the short animation). Through various advancements throughout the following years the recording and replaying methods became more powerful and much truthfulr. star of these advancements led to colour pictures a nd was used to obliterate mono-chrome movies for a short while. Films like Schindlers List Steven Spielberg 1993 and Clerks Kevin Smith 1994 show that monochrome can help make an atmosphere that colour cant. An example of a movie with very little technology would be No Country for Old Men which relied on the atmosphere made by bang-up acting and cinematography. It is argued that the lack of technology used in the making of the film and even in the setting, which was the early eighties, made for a more dramatic effect. But to contest that is the fact that the film was following the original novel by Cormic McCarthy, and that dramatic effect was made by very good acting, directing, back music and producing. Computer Generated imagery has changed the way movie makers imagine and visualise the movie because they are not as restricted as they were 20 years ago. Some get arounds had to be made then due to lack of funds or until a technological solution was developed. The more simple tricks included stopping the camera but keeping it in position as an actor moved off set before continuing to moderate the effect that a graphic symbol had suddenly vanished. Another trick would involve an artist painting some matching scenery around a aeroplane of glass and letting the camera film through that so it made the surrounding area look larger than it actually was. Original animations were very windy and labour intensive. To make the drawings move the cartoonist unremarkably had to produce twenty-five to twenty-six drawings for every second of screen time. This resulted in ten-minute cartoon needing fourteen thousand, four speed of light incompatible drawings. Gertie the Dinosaur by Winsor McCay in 1909 was the first one of its kind. It was seven minutes long and needed ten thousand drawings. Titan AE, this is an animated movie intensify by computer to give a hybrid. This was a great success and is k out recompensen for stunning visuals and brilliant voice acting. Normally an animated movie is screened at around twenty five launchs per second which means that even the smallest movement on screen would require about sixty drawings. With the computer this be dramatically reduced and enhanced graphically. Another movie Monsters Inc. is completely computer generated. This gives the movie a cartoonish look and the class of a live film were the actions and motions are more fluid. CGI allows directors to create an atmosphere that they would not be able to achieve with models or visual trickery. George Lucas explains in Star Wars A New Hope Remastered videodisk In the scene where Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi are speeding across the Desert in the Speeder(Hover Car), The production team originally put Vaseline on the camera lense in the area that the cars wheels would be. This of course left two black smudges under the car. Due to other problems and limitations Lucas had problem realising his vision for the movie. He created his own digital set up house (Industrial Light and Magic and sound companies THX and Skywalker sound because the functions he wanted simply didnt exist. New techniques were thought up and tested. Although the film was highly successful, Lucas still was not happy and later remastered the film with more advanced graphics and sounds. With the improvements they added larger backgrounds to once disappointing sets and add extra characters. A cut scene was added because they could now add in a CG (computer generated) alien character that at the time didnt even have a puppet stand-in. Without the help of these special set up the film would not have done justice to Lucas original vision for the movie. For The Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring (Peter Jackson, 2001) and The Lord of the Rings The Two Towers (Peter Jackson, 2002) programmer Stephen Regelous created ample a special-effects program that allowed thousands of unique CG characters to have a mind of their own when thrown into combat fo r the battle scenes. Gathering seventy-thousand or so tall, broad-shouldered extras, stuffing them in elaborate armor and having them slaughtering each other was out of the question. Digital technology is a thing, a medium that makes film flourish as it neer has before. George Lucas Because of CGI, realistic Dinosaurs were seen in Jurassic Park (Steven Spielberg, 1993) and animals have charged down through a city street in Jumanji (Joe Johnston, 1995). The future of cinema lies in the power of the pixel. The injection of fresh ideas and methodologies will only serve to mix up the metaphorical gene pool and empower a new genesis of filmmakers. Roger Corman Both these movies have done very well in cinema through VHS and DVD sales. Examples of films that have been let down by special effects would be Killer Flood(Doug Campbell, 2003) and Deep Blue Sea(Renny Harlin, 1999) which did alright in viewings and even had very good acting and scripting but was let down by a few moments we re the audience should have been amazed by the imagery but instead was disappointed by the poorly made imagery of the sharks. Movies have withal been influenced by Computer Games and some of the rendering techniques from games have been applied to the movie making process. One such method has a group of people wearing Skin tight clothing fitted with sensors on all the locations were movement is most noticeable and at joints. A computer then gathers the information to make a model on screen with the same movements of the person wearing the sensors. Computer generated imagery has also helped reduce the cost of movie making. Large effects that normally cost thousands to make can be done with a decent computer and some editing software. Because of the need of pre-processing is no longer required with digital video, clips can now be viewed on site instantly and mistakes can be found and changed or fixed unlike traditional 35mm film where errors would not be found for weeks until all the film had been processed. With cost effective production, more and more movies can be made and newer previously unknown directors appear with disaster Office hit Films. A recent box office hit Zombieland directed by Ruben Fleischer was the first feature film by him, without the low cost production methods available the movie may not have been made. District 9 Zombieland done well in cinema and have been made by first time directors. District 9 Gross Profit $210,146,235 Zombieland Gross Profit $90,081,556 The large profits of these films show that they have been a success and the filming budgets (average 30,000,000) show that studio apartments are not afraid to stop a production half way. Before digital film these mock ups had to be made to view/preview the movie hence a higher cost. Digital Video has been both the answer to cheap filming and the enemy of those in the film industry. With digital video large amounts of video can be moved and transferred easily rather than the tru cks needed to move the reels of film. Increased memory capacity has aided this as well allowing very high quality images to be recorded. High definition video is an example of this as on that point are so many pixels per frame and so many frames the file sizes are enormous. Just 30 minutes of video can be two Gigabytes in size. One of the first films to use digital video was Westworld in 1973. Shortly before digital video came digital audio. With digital audio the same advantages apply, it is cheaper to store and easier to edit. One of the primary(prenominal) advantages of digital audio is that tape is not needed to store it. Audio stored on tape was prone to distortion or deterioration from magnetic waves and moisture it is also much harder to sync than with a piece of video like an animated character or sound effect. Recorders and Microphones have become very small and fitted inwardly the ear or in the collar of a jumper. They can record in very high quality which helps in th e editing phase, if a character gets drowned out by another noise or their voice becomes muffled by another person in front of the microphone on the main floor . The better quality also creates a much better atmosphere for the audience. This may not make or break the film but bad audio can be worse than bad visuals in my own opinion. With HD (High Definition) audio emerging, recording techniques and styles will evolve again. This will follow the sufferance of Surround sound which is now common among domicil entertainment systems and some Cinemas or Movie Theatres. Surround Sound uses multiple speakers placed around the audience and a special controller sends the right volume and sounds to each speaker to make it sound as though the audience is immersed in the movie. Sound technicians now place the mics around the set / scene to record the different sound levels at those spots in the room. Not every new idea in cinema was successful enough to consider continuing at first, such as three-dimensional movies (3D), which required viewers to wear special glasses, and the smells, in which different scents were blown into theatres to accompany the images and sound. The system just didnt work well or subtly enough. Now though 3D movies are at an all-time with 9 3D movies released in 2009 alone. With the new 3D technology using digital glasses and high frequency screens the poor effect on a viewers eye-sight or balance has been removed. 3D Filming has for a long time been an attraction for creating stunning experiences. Journey to the Centre of the Earth was the first film to successfully deploy a live 3D experience. It grossed $241,995,151 in worldwide. These changes seem to have been for the better, good profits for 3D films shows a fan base and market audience. The newest technologies used are proving their worth and may end up leading production to entirely 3d movies. With advancements comes cheaper high end equipment this has led to a lot of fans and wanna be p roducers making films or videos on the cheap. YouTube the greatest example of public film/video is well known and is full of fan made or substructure made movies. Some of these can be on par with full length feature films. Technology has advanced to let what used to be studio equipment be compacted and simplified for everyone. A good example of the Fan- made movie is The Hunt for Gollum a prequel to The Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring It has amassed over 1.5 Million views and maintains a 5 star rating( The highest available on YouTube). On another Note the Movie has been made in HD which shows the makers had access to good equipment. Another intriguing thing to note is that technology on the whole can and has influenced films. Two older movies that are well known are Wargames(John Badham 1983) and Hackers(Iain Softley, 1995). One of the most notable is The crowd together Bond 007 series of films which has used technological possibilities to its fullest, were Bond is supplied with a massive range of gadgets some futuristic and some of the present times. 3. ConclusionMovies at home are now a big part of the cinema experience. Large television sets and home cinema systems are very common. Small versions of the projectors used in the cinema are also common and provide a cinema like atmosphere to your home movies. Homes can even have computers that server video and audio content to the television. With movies cheaply available to buy, sets of several DVDs available on a single Blu-ray disc and Online services such as the iTunes Store making digital downloads available, there is always a larger demand for movies and so the film industry will expand to make good films. With more impart of distribution there will be a greater demand for content but less money will be required to make it. The people who can create content the most cost effectively will have a clear cut advantage Roger Corman The future of Cinema is greatly entwined with technological advancements. The effects of technology on cinema are quite clear, as long as the technologies are used in the right ways and are not abused for the sake of time or money then the quality of cinema will not die. Though there are movies were technology plays a minute roll it still seeps through from the camera used the sound recording equipment and the sets built. The cinema was built of technology and should continue to thrive and mature and technology does so.

F Scott Fitzgerald Was An American Dreamer English Literature Essay

F Scott Fitzgerald Was An American Dreamer English Literature Essaycontemporaneousness was a literary movement in the 19th century that challenged the traditional way of presenting art and all other aspects of social life, modernism also claimed that the traditional life was outdated and needed reforms and it described both a set of cultural tendencies and many associated cultural movements. Modernism was a contradiction against the conservative determine of realism It argued that unlike traditional social system, the modern culture was permanent. It aimed at identifying the root ca parts that undermined social progress. Fitzgerald uses the basic concepts of modernity to advocate for change in books and embrace new form of social organization. In his works, Fitzgerald uses various themes that advocate for modernism. Fitzgerald further emphasizes the way in which Modernism is fascinated with the way the mind processes or projects a reality which surrounds the individual but which is often alienating and oppressing. (Camacho) He utilizes the technique of the unreliable narrator to further locate The bang-up Gatsby within the Modernist sensibility. The put through of modernity was sophisticated and the narrator wishes that everyone would accept modernism. One things sure and nothings surer The rich get richer and the poor get children (www.goodreads.com) Here we be do aw atomic number 18 of the occurrence that riches stood as a definition for the pompous and sophisticated pack in society i populate Ive been everywhere and seen everything and done everythingSophisticated God, Im sophisticated (Fitzgerald) The considerable Gatsby explains in literary title all the characteristics of modernism. The experience of modernity was sophisticated and the narrator wishes that everyone would accept modernism Either you thinkor else others have to think for you and take originator from you, pervert and discipline your natural tastes, civilize and sterilize(goodbo oksincquotes.blogspot.com) Fitzgerald calls out on the society to civilize as he saw tradition as numbing and detaching peck who expect positive aspects of modernity. Fitzgerald has cleared in his novel In America about the modernity how the women is set free but is aimless without any polish and is used as a sex object in the novel Tender is the night and because of this reason women like rosemary left behind people like Dick mainstay and marched ahead towards the future One of the most interesting contributions Fitzgerald makes to the analysis of modernity he found in his various sources is his speck that the quintessential American art form, the cinema epitomizes the modern tourists consciousness is the movie movie studio at Monte Carlo, where Rosemary goes to meet Brady (Jackson, p. 139) There are many aspects of modernism in F. Scott Fitzgeralds works. Especially, The Great Gatsby, addresses important issues of Modernism. Most of the issues that relate to modernism are the development of technology, feminism, the effect of World War I upon society, a questioning of God, and the possibility of mans place in a possibly Godless Universe. Apart from these themes that deal in Modernist literature, Fitzgerald founded the technique of the unreliable narrator make The Great Gatsby an important part of modernism In fact, F. Scott Fitzgerald is a leader of the modernist movement in literature. His works look at the typical characteristics of modernism. The uniqueness and novelty of Fitzgeralds style put him in the lead of modernist writers. Fitzgeralds works of art and the characterization are used to aptly illustrate Fitzgerald as one who started the modernist movement. Moreover, modernism meant breaking forth from traditional responses and predictable forms and raising social issues of decadence in an urbanized and industrial society. In this aspect Fitzgerald has succeeded greatly in his novel, The Great Gatsby.F. Scott Fitzgerald is known for his emblemati cal writing, like in the novel The Great Gatsby -Fitzgerald uses symbolism in the novel to arrays an accurate reflection of the American life in the 1920s -The Doctor T.J. Eckelburgs eyeball symbolize a godlike being watching everything a society, The food at Gatsbys party symbolize the members of the 1920s society -oranges show wasteful life, The cardinal women dressed in yellow at Gatsbys party -they symbolize the values of the 1920s. Symbols are objects that recur in a piece of writing, which add an additional stage of meaning to the piece beyond the simple literal function of the object Gatsby believed in the green baseless, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but thats no mattertomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther (Fitzgerald), Fitzgerald uses the green light as a metaphoric language to represent the consequences of the past to future dreams Her porch was bright with the bought luxury of star-shine the wicker of the settee squeaked fashionably as she turned toward him and he kissed her curious and lovely mouth. She had caught a cold and it made her voice huskier and more charming than ever and Gatsby was overwhelmingly aware of the youth and mystery that wealth imprisons and preserves, of the freshness of many clothes and of Daisy, gleaming like silver, effective and proud above the hot struggles of the poor (Fitzgerald). This attraction to the lights and shining things are a symbolic device as Pachalska said, To some extentthe symbolism of the green light is Fitzgeralds invention, but its interpretation is conditioned and constpeltinged by the conventional associations of green and light, which are not under Fitzgeralds control (Pachalska, p. 283) the symbol is characterizing to ugliness as light. In The Great Gatsby, Nick is aware of the influence effect light can have I liked to walk up Fifth Avenue and tweak out romantic women from the crowd and imagine that in a few minutes I was go ing to enter into their lives, and no one would ever know or disapprove. Sometimes, in my mind, I followed them to their apartments on the corners of hidden streets, and they turned and smiled back at me before they faded through a door into warm darkness (Fitzgerald). In great Gatsby America is like a dream, an illusion which means something that attracts but they are not achievable, everybody seeks ambitiously but eventually realizes that all dreams are not achievable and the dreams were all hallucinations or imaginations. Fitzgeralds lifestyle symbolism represent the superficial life lead by the society during the 1920s the sheep on the back lot of the old Laemmle studio (Fitzgerald, p.75), the sheep symbolize people and how they do what some other person does without thinking if it is right or wrong, they follow what is done by others -you dont use your brains and think if what is done is right or wrong. the sheep just follows without thinking. So people are compared to them as they also do not think before acting. another big symbol throughout Fitzgeralds works is the car it symbolises the wealth and class, When they got to the coast again the sky way grey, and at Santa Monica a sudden gust of rain bounced over them, Stahr halted beside the road, put them. Stahr halted beside the road, put on a raincoat, and lifted the canvas top (Fitzgerald, p.305) this quote symbolizes wealth -only wealthy people drive nice cars, Everybody had seen it. It was a rich cream color, bright with nickel, swollen here and there in its monstrous length with triumphant hat-boxes and supper-boxes and tool-boxes, and terraced with a labyrinth of wind-shields that mirrored a xii suns (Fitzgerald, p. 164) Gatsbys car is a good example as a status symbol. Overall, F. Scott Fitzgerald is very symbolic in his writing and applies those symbols to make observations of the world around him. He uses symbols to criticize human inhabitants and American society in many ways.
